In this segment, we get to hear the latest WattGrinder ToneGrinder X100 tube devices in action. These tube replacements are neither solid-state or vacuum, but rather what WattGrinder’s Daryl Ford describes as non-glass, non-vacuum 12AX7 tube devices. There are four models in two different series—the Expanded Output Series and the recently released X100 Custom Series. Keep an eye out for our video demo of these devices. “The idea of ToneGrinder is to open up the frequency, the dynamic range, the amplifier’s capability to give player’s the most out of their equipment,” Ford told us. Scumback describes the M75 as being a warm, detailed midrange enhanced guitar speaker with smooth overdrive and distortion tones. Great sound right out of the box due to factory aging, design and break-in procedures. This is a superb tone and sound recreation of the G12M Pre Rola era “Greenback” that was used in Marshall stacks and combos, and many other British amps of the era such as Vox, Orange, Sound City. It features a fully-carved Eastern maple back (his Daylighters typically have a flat Spanish cedar back) and a 4″ Spanish cedar core block which is attached to the Spanish cedar top. Kauer describes the guitar as having 60-70% more internal volume. Initially, Kauer was disappointed because he was hoping the guitar would be somewhat ES-175-ish, but he was happy to discover the guitar is very much like an ES-335. LA Amp Show ’10 – Friedman Amplification Dirty Shirley & Naked Demos

via premierguitar:

www.premierguitar.com PG’s Chris Kies is On Location at the 2010 LA Amp Show where he swings by the Friedman Amplification room. In this video segment, we get to check out Friedman’s Dirty Shirley and Naked heads. The Dirty Shirley sounds like Jimmy Page on the early Zeppelin records. Watch our video demo and decide just how accurate that statement is. The Dirty Shirley is a 6L6-based head with a tube rectifier. Friedman describes the amp as being loosely based on a JTM45 platform, but the amp does have a Gain control and Master Volume, too. In comparison to a lot of Friedman’s other popular amps (Naked, Brown Eye), the Dirty Shirley is a little more “classic” and has no switches and no effects loop—just great rockin’ tone.
